Growing Food – Skills for Adults and Children

Happy New Year!

Have we good some food growing fun for you.
Some of the best food growers in Geelong have made themselves available to teach you the basics plus tips and tricks they’ve picked up and developed over many years.

Growing food in our front and backyards and even inside our homes helps in so many ways; it reduces the energy and water required, reconnects us and children with the wondrous natural world, can provide habitat for other life, gives us an abundance to eat, preserve and share, allows us to protect our food source in varying weather conditions, can increase community connection, keeps food affordable, is fun and very importantly, increases food security. Bring your questions.

Growing Food at home especially in our front yards is also an inspiration to others to do the same. Just one front edible garden can inspire many more to get started and some may even utilise other available plots as well. Our vision is for Geelong to be self supporting with food.

The more of us that do it and share the joys of it, the better!.

We have an exciting line up of workshop facilitators including one on children’s gardening (age 5-10), how to grow oyster mushrooms, growing sprouts, market gardening on an urban rental block and propagating reliably from seed and planting out. Some workshops will run at the same time as others.

** Please only book if you are definitely coming. These workshops cost a lot to put on and they are free to the public as part of our funding agreement. Not showing up or cancelling at the last minute wastes our funds, opportunities for others to learn and robs the community of skill building. Limited numbers apply.
